Conspiracy theories have the habit of becoming popular then quietly fading away. Their followers will typically 1) Forget about them 2) Never admit that they were wrong or lied too 3) Embrace a new theory which is often a recycled version of an older one.

A few examples.......

The 2012 Mayan Apocalypse (2000s-2012)
Claim: The world would end on December 21, 2012, based on the Mayan calendar.
Status: Obviously false, and no longer discussed.

The Y2K Government Collapse (1999-2000)
Claim: The Y2K computer bug would cause global chaos and government collapse.
Status: Never happened, completely obsolete.

The Black Helicopters Conspiracy (1990s-2000s)
Claim: Unmarked black helicopters were part of a U.N. plan to invade and control the U.S.
Status: Mostly died out after the Y2K era.

The KFC Sterility Conspiracy (1970s-2000s)
Claim: KFC secretly altered its chicken to make men sterile.
Status: No evidence, and largely forgotten.

FEMA Camps (1990s-2010s, declining after COVID-19 theories emerged)
Claim: The U.S. government built FEMA-run concentration camps for mass imprisonment.
Status: Lost popularity as newer government-related conspiracies emerged.

The Jupiter Effect (1974-1982)
Claim: A planetary alignment in 1982 would cause massive earthquakes and disasters on Earth.
Status: Never happened, now forgotten.

The Supercomputer Beast of Belgium (1970s-1990s)
Claim: A secret supercomputer in Brussels was controlling the world’s financial system and tracking every human with barcodes.
Status: Faded due to technological advancements making the idea ridiculous.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Black Hole Theory (2008-2010s)
Claim: The LHC at CERN would create a black hole that destroys Earth.
Status: Faded as the LHC has operated for years without problems.

The Philadelphia Experiment (1950s-1990s)
Claim: The U.S. Navy allegedly conducted an experiment in 1943 to make a ship invisible and teleport it.
Status: Largely debunked, with no credible evidence, and rarely discussed today.

Planet X / Nibiru Cataclysm (1990s-2012)
Claim: A rogue planet (Nibiru) was on a collision course with Earth, causing the apocalypse.
Status: No evidence of such a planet; faded after 2012.

The Loch Ness Monster Cover-Up (1930s-2000s, now just folklore)
Claim: The government was hiding proof of Nessie’s existence.
Status: Interest has declined due to lack of credible evidence.

The Missing Cosmonauts (1960s-1980s, now mostly historical debate)
Claim: The Soviet Union secretly launched cosmonauts into space before Yuri Gagarin, but they died, and the USSR covered it up.
Status: No solid proof ever emerged, and interest has declined.

The Bermuda Triangle Mysteries (1940s-2000s, now explained by science)
Claim: Ships and planes vanish mysteriously in the Bermuda Triangle due to supernatural or alien activity.
Status: Faded as natural explanations like rogue waves and magnetic anomalies emerged.

The Malaysia Flight MH370 Alien Abduction Theory (2014-2016, now mostly forgotten)
